Carpentry

Middletown, CT Front Door

This was a back braking tedious project, but wow it was worth it. The red oak door looks amazing and adds some serious curb appeal. We applied some pink paint stripper to help remove the old paint. We removed 2 layers of paint with a heat gun and metal scraper. Once the paint was removed it was time for sanding. We used 30, 60, 120, then finish with 220 grit sand paper. Then it was time to remove the lacquer finish from the other side. We used the heat gun with scraper, then the sand paper. When we got this to bare wood, we applied some min wax stain then 24 hours later applied some oil-based exterior grade polyurethane. Homeowner was extremely happy with the results.

Materials Used:

Painted Pine Board and Trim – Old Red Oak Door – Satin Oil-based Polyurethane – Min-Wax Stain
